rather than methodically working out the clues.

is an improvement on their 2024 endeavour Drive-Away
Dolls, but not by much. Honey Don't! can be categorised
as Californian noir – the most famous example of which
is the masterful Chinatown – where glaring sunshine
replaces the usually murky shadows of classic noir.
Margaret Qualley plays a glamorous private eye
investigating an apparent car crash fatality that she
believes was orchestrated by a secretive religious cult
overseen by creepy pastor Chris Evans. The film has a
surprisingly high body count, but it transpires that most of
the gory murders are only tangentially related to the
primary investigation. Similarly, the fact Qualley is
lesbian leads to a number of frankly unerotic sex scenes
that just get in the way of the story. It's all just so much
style over substance, with Qualley pretty much
Perfect for a family outing at Halloween is the daft
fantasy comedy Sketch, starring Bianca Belle as an
imaginative schoolgirl forever drawing pictures of
monsters in her sketchbook and giving them all names
and complicated abilities, much to the concern of her
widowed father (Tony Hale) and aunt (D'Arcy Carden).
When the book is accidentally dunked in a magical lake
in the woods around her house, her doodles are brought to
life and quickly infest her home and the nearby town.
Particularly troublesome are the Eyeders, eight-legged
eyeballs that multiply at a rate of knots, and Dave, a giant
perambulating blue ball with googly eyes that spews
glitter. The movie taps into a similar sense of rapidly
escalating chaos as Gremlins and Jumanji, as well as their
curveball unpredictability.
