PARISH CHURCHES
THE CHURCHWARDEN’S LETTER
So many people today are desperately
searching for happiness. We look in all
kinds of places: a loving relationship, work
we enjoy, a home of our own, earning a
very good wage, or simply enjoying a good
wine. None of these are wrong, but on
their own they won’t lead us to lasting
happiness.
None of us wants to spend our whole
lives hunting down happiness in all the
wrong places. Christ said that happiness is
found in closeness to him. “If anyone is
thirsty, let him come to me. Whoever
believes in me, let him drink, as Scripture
says: ‘Streams of living waters shall ow
out from him’.” John 7. 38
Look outward, think of others rst,
forget the rituals, forget the religion, be
fair, be just and love. Be kind and
considerate, help wherever it is needed.
This from Amos 5. 21-24 MSG may or
may not be relevant to you:
“I can’t stand your religious meetings.
I’m fed up with your conferences and
conventions. I want nothing to do with
your religion projects, your pretentious
slogans and goals.
“I’m sick of your fund-raising schemes,
your public relations and image making.
I’ve had all I can take of your noisy egomusic. When was the last time you sang to
me?
“Do you know what I want? I want justice oceans of it. I want fairness - rivers of it.
That’s what I want. That’s all I want.”
Sorry if I’ve put the cat among the
pigeons. It certainly outs a point of view - a
paraphrase of the passage in the New
English Bible - but not that different!

APOLOGY FROM THE GLENSIDE
The baptism notice for 23 August accidentally missed
off the rst name of Dominic and Stacey’s daughter.
She is Frankie Eva Sale. We apologise for this error.
O Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and lovingkindness endure forever.
(Psalm 136:1)
Sometimes it is hard to see the goodness of the Lord, we question
why God seems silent, and if at all he cares? In our answered
questions, our doubts, may we, like the Psalmist, remind ourselves
that God is good always. Be encouraged to give Him thanks for His
love and mercy.
