School Bell
Bringing you news from the Bythams Primary School
Here at The Bythams' Primary we embrace
being outside, whatever the weather, to engage
with our learning. This term has been
challenging due to the wet and then cold
weather that we have experienced. Even
though the elements have been against us we
have still ensured our Forest School sessions
have run. This term Badgers have been
focusing on the artist Andy Goldsworthy and his
use of nature in creating outside sculptures.
Inspired by this, Badgers created their own
piece of nature-inspired art, the name of which
has yet to be decided!
and holds the post-war speed record for a
steam locomotive.
Upon hearing of its imminent arrival, we
immediately downed pencils and went to
watch. The view from the area behind the
school was amazing for all ages and the
photographs and video footage we took were
very good. The driver kindly tooted us as the
train passed. For many of the children it was
their first time seeing a steam locomotive and
experiencing the sight, steam, sound and
smell. It really was a quite fantastic delight for
everyone.
It was a rare but very welcome treat for us
all in school.

We were also fortunate enough to be tipped
off about a steam train very much like The
Mallard, passing along the line by the school.
The 'Sir Nigel Gresley' locomotive, designed by
Sir Nigel, is the same design as the Mallard,
