Anything Goes at Glittersby’s:
A Night to Die For
A murder mystery took place at the Castle Inn, Castle Bytham, at the end of October!
On the evening of Tuesday, 28th October Castle Bytham
was transported across time and space to the Roaring
1920s, as the Castle Inn became the opulent New York
mansion of the infamous Jay Glittersby (as played by Dom
Sherry). With flapper dresses swishing and jazz tunes
floating through the air, 18 guests stepped into character for
a night of glamour, intrigue — and murder.
As the gin fizz flowed and the party reached its peak a
gunshot shattered the revelry. Forgaine Fixer (Will
Stanton), a guest with secrets as deep as his pockets, was
found dead — shot right between the eyes! The game was
afoot.
As the guests tucked into a sumptuous
three-course meal — courtesy of landlords
Sue and Will, who had transformed the Castle
Inn into a Gatsby-worthy set — Detective
Fitzgerald of NYPD Homicide arrived and
delivered periodic updates from the “ongoing
investigation”, keeping everyone guessing.
What followed was a masterclass in amateur
sleuthing and theatrical flair. The village's own
thespian talent shone brightly: from the
womanising Jigg O Low (Paul Thurman) to the
suspiciously charming Shay D Sort (Rod Goss)
and the annoyingly cheer leading Rara Sis
Boomba (Helen Pye) each character was
played with gusto and glitter.
The costumes were magnificent — feathers,
pearls, pinstripes and all. The best costume
prize went to Blake Boddum (Jim Price) for his sharp
pinstriped suit complete with white spats.
But it was Noell No Zee (Diane Lloyd), a seemingly
unassuming waitress, who cracked the case. With keen
observation and a nose for deception, she unmasked
undercover cop turned dumb blond, Goldie Diggs (Jean
Goss) as the murderer. Gasps echoed through the room as
Goldie was led away in handcuffs to begin her stint in
HMP Stocken!
The evening was a great success, full of laughter and
good old-fashioned fun. As the final
drink was drunk and the last clues
tucked away, one thing was clear:
Castle Bytham knows how to throw
a killer party!
