COMMUNITY
The Inter-Village Quiz Evening
Last year Essendine issued a challenge to their neighbouring villages to compete in an annual quiz
evening, for fun and to promote good relations between communities. Castle Bytham took part
and at the end of the evening volunteered to host the 2025 event.
Twelve teams of six from around the area met at Castle
Bytham Village Hall to test their general knowledge with 10
rounds of questions set by Rosie and Dom Sherry on topics
ranging from history, science and sport to current affairs
and music. Represented were Braceborough, Castle
Bytham, Corby Glen, Essendine, Great Casterton, Little
Bytham, Rippingale, South Witham, Swayfield, Tallington,
Thurlby and Toll Bar.
Entry was £5 per person, which covered the cost of table
snacks and a half-time meal of baked potatoes and a range
of fillings, as well as some sweet treats to finish. The surplus
of £61.49 was donated to Lincolnshire Air Ambulance.
By the end of the 10th round of head-scratching,
whispered consultations, enjoyable banter and good-natured
rivalry, Castle Bytham had edged in front, followed by the
teams from Corby Glen and Braceborough.
When the call went out for an organiser in 2026,
Swayfield took up the baton.
