Glenside News
For the villages of Aunby, Careby, Castle Bytham, Creeton, Counthorpe, Holywell and Little Bytham
VOLUME 54 Issue 3 (or the 517th Edition)
Dear Glensiders,
I was pleased to meet our MP, Alicia
Kearns, at a recent event at Stamford
School. I stressed the importance of
our esteemed local publication, and
Alicia volunteered to provide a regular
column for the Glenside News.
I am not a member of the Conservative
Party (or any other political
organisation), but I do think that Alicia
Kearns is a conscientious and
principled MP who represents the
concerns of her constituents. You will
find her first contribution on page 21.
Garry Jamison has once again
produced a useful and coherent guide
to SKDC’s waste collection schedules.
These whole page guides are printed
on the inside back cover (for Aunby,
Careby and Holywell) and the outside
back cover (for Castle Bytham,
Creeton and Little Bytham). Many
readers found Garry’s last guide more
decipherable and helpful than the
schedule on the SKDC website, so
many thanks again to Mr Jamison !
Our Parishes now officially have a new
Priest-in-Charge. Father Edward
Martin was licensed at a ceremony
held at St James Church in Castle
Bytham. The ceremony was led by
Luke Irvine-Capel, Bishop of
Richborough. See the inside front
cover for details.
The Bytham River was a major and
significant geological feature of this
area. See page 47 for a fascinating
account of this historic element of our
natural history.
On a more contemporary note - I
would like to draw your attention to
some forthcoming events in the
Bythams area. Little Bytham Village
Hall is hosting another Bingo night on
Friday 10th April - a Full House is
expected ! See page 13.
APRIL 2026
Castle Bytham hosts an intriguing 3D
Quiz on 25th April - see the details on
pages 39 and 51.
On Friday 8th May, Little Bytham
Church hosts a folk and early music
concert. This sounds interesting details on page 33.
On the same evening, those who are
tone deaf can go to the fashion show
at Castle Bytham Village Hall : details
on page 51.
Castle Bytham Parish Council is
organising a litter pick in the village on
Saturday 11th April. It’s hoped that a
number of people will be able to help ;
if you’d like to join the merry band at
10.30am at the Community Shop,
please register with Mike via email at:
mike.brooman@castlebythampc.gov.uk
so they know how many will need the
pick-up equipment.
The Castle Bytham’s Midsummer
Festival is continuing with last year’s
Young Entrepreneurs initiative. All the
participants thoroughly enjoyed the
experience last year and made a profit!
Support and guidance will be provided
by local business leaders ; see page
35 for further details of how to apply.
Spring has now officially sprung, both
astronomically and meteorologically,
and the weather does seem to be
warming up. Although the price of
heating oil has doubled (thank you Mr
Trump), we should need to use less
over the next six months.
There are many self-appointed
(technically elected) leaders on the
planet who are dangerous to both their
own people and the outside world.
Ironically, the most deranged,
delusional and dangerous one was
democratically elected. So sad.
Best wishes for April !
