Rocked my samba
at the Festival, to
the music of Latino
Sound. Arriba,
arribaaaa!
Glenside News
For the villages of Careby, Aunby & Holywell, Castle Bytham, Creeton, Counthorpe and Little Bytham
VOLUME 53 Issue 6 (or the 509th Edition)
Dear Glensiders,
I write just two days after the CB
Midsummer Festival ; the
organising team can now have a
well-deserved break, at least until
preparations for Bonfire Night
fireworks are underway! Many
thanks, as always, to all the
volunteers, residents and visitors
whose support is invaluable and
enables this wonderful event to
continue and flourish. Mike
Brooman (CB Parish Council Chair)
and Steve Barratt (Village Shop
Committee Chair) have both paid
tribute to all involved (on pages 11
and 39 respectively) and I need say
little more other than a few personal
observations.
It was good to see so many
stallholders (including a large
number of newcomers), who
offered a huge variety of interesting
wares, and also encouraging to see
our local young entrepreneurs
doing so well and, equally
important, enjoying themselves!
It was a delight also to see the
Bourne Borderers and Pig Dyke
Molly Morris Dancing sides joining
forces - well done to both teams.
I thought that the music line-up was
exceptionally good this year ; as a
serious Neil Young nerd I thought
that Hurricane Moon were
excellent, but there was high praise
expressed for many of the
performers, and it was energetic
bopping-room only in the Marquee
for Latino Sound until late on
Saturday night.
See page 25 for details of all the
winners of the 5K Run, the Duck
Race and the Sponsor’s Logo
competition.
JULY 2025
Pictures of the Festival are on the
outside and inside cover pages :
there may well be more next month,
together with a more detailed
report.
My only disappointment - and I
wasn’t alone! - was the unfortunate
cancellation of the flypasts on both
days. In each case the BBMF
monitored the conditions until the
last possible moment and so we
weren’t able to give much notice.
The pilots were extremely
apologetic and hoped that they will
be able to make it next year.
The issue is of course that our visit
is one of many on a long route, and
although weather conditions may
be acceptable here, that may not
be the case elsewhere. On
Saturday, thunderstorms were
anticipated, and on Sunday high
winds to the north potentially
could have exceeded the safe
limits for the Spitfire & Hurricane.
All those Glensiders who are of a
superstitious nature - please keep
all fingers and toes crossed for next
year!
At this point I would also like to
unequivocally refute the current
conspiracy theory that the planes
had in fact been commandeered by
Donald Trump to support the B2
bomber attacks in Iran. (Are you
absolutely sure about that - Ed.)
As always, this July issue has been
produced very speedily due to our
involvement with the CB Festival,
and so omissions and errors may
well have crept in. I crave your
indulgence and hope that you feel
able to make the appropriate
allowances! Excuses completed!
Best wishes for July -
Alan
